Huntsville: 5 feet, 10 cubic yards, then $55

The city collects tree limbs cut to no more than 5 feet in length. Up to 10 cubic yards goes at no charge, with each additional 5 cubic yards charged at $55 per collection. Uncontainerized yard waste carries a published minimum of $45 per cubic yard.

Placement matters. Carts go out by 7 a.m. on collection day, within two feet of the curb and at least five feet clear of mailboxes and utility poles, with bagged material under 50 pounds. Madison: 8 feet, bagged clippings, 5 cubic yards a week

Madison contracts collection to Republic Services and publishes its own limits. Limbs must be cut to lengths not exceeding 8 feet with protruding branches trimmed and placed in a neat pile. Leaves, grass and shrubbery clippings have to be bagged because the trucks pick up with a claw.

The weekly allowance is 5 cubic yards per household, roughly a pickup bed. Put out more and it is not a fine; the remainder waits for the following week. Everything goes out by 6:00 a.m., and not beneath power or cable lines, low hanging branches, mailboxes, traffic signs or on top of sewer drains. The city guidelines state directly that waste generated by commercial workers or professional lawn services cannot be put out for collection, and that a hired contractor is responsible for their own disposal. Owens Cross Roads: 8 feet, and a grapple charge

Collection here runs weekly through Madison County Garbage on (256) 532-3718, billed alongside Huntsville Utilities electrical service. Tree limbs cannot exceed 8 feet, and bagged yard waste stays under 50 pounds. Anything beyond a standard pickup bed counts as an excessive load.

An excessive load carries a published minimum of $100 per grapple, with the final figure depending on manpower, equipment and disposal fees, payable before pickup. Construction and demolition material and debris from paid contractor work are both excluded. See the town's service page.

New Hope: two piles, ten feet, $75 minimum

New Hope's street department asks for trash and brush in two distinct piles, placed within 10 feet of the road and preferably not in a ditch. Nothing goes on a water meter or a sewer manhole, nothing under power lines, and everything stays on your own property. Leaves are bagged.

Paint, chemicals, tires, shingles and construction or renovation material are all refused, as is trash or limbs brought in from another city or county. Oversized items go through City Hall on 256-723-2616 extension 213, with a minimum $75 fee. The street department page carries the list.

Burning is not the free option

Alabama requires a Forestry Commission permit before burning over a quarter acre or within 25 feet of woods or grass. Permits cost nothing and are issued by phone on (800) 392‑5679, but holding one means having the people and equipment to control the fire and staying with it until it is out.
