Clearing goes wrong at the boundary and at the debris pile. Settle both on paper before anyone starts, and decide deliberately what you want left standing.
Mark the line before quoting the work
A fence line that has grown in for a decade rarely sits where people assume. Find the actual boundary and mark it. Cutting a tree whose trunk stands on the other side is not a scope question, it is a dispute, and a contractor cannot resolve it for you.
Where a limb crosses the line, talk to the neighbor first. A shared decision made before the work costs nothing; the same conversation afterwards is much more expensive.
Decide what stays, tree by tree

Watch the overhead and the underground

Get the finished state in writing
State the stump outcome: ground, cut flush, or left. State whether roots crossing a path are chased out. State the ground condition you expect at handover. A line saying "clear the fence line" describes an intention rather than a job.
